News / Equipment Provision

The RPSB Unit in Accra was initially set up with equipment surplus to NHS needs sent out from Scotland in the mid 1990s.

Shipment of materials and equipment in forty foot ships' containers resumed in 2002 and has continued annually since.

Since 2002, £1 million worth of equipment and materials for use in anaesthetics, surgery, wards, sterilisation, recovery and rehabilitation has been sent out to help modernise and assist the work of the reconstructive plastic surgery units.

We are constantly seeking donations of the types of equipment and supplies shown in the equipment shipping lists and shopping lists.

The shipments have included over £250,000 of new equipment including anaesthetic machines, a sterilisation unit that has made the Accra Unit self reliant in this department, operating tables, new sets of surgical instruments, electric dermatomes for skin grafting and others.

Also accompanying each shipment are small quantities of provisions for other departments including paediatrics, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, A & E etc.
