John Botrey lived for 15 years with devastating deformity and disability resulting from the tropical gangrene-like disease, Noma, known as “the face of poverty”
Over a 2-year period a RPS team performed highly complex cranio-facial operations for the first time in West Africa to immeasurably improve John's quality of life.
His lower jaw has been returned to its original position; part of his hipbone has been used to rebuild his missing upper jaw.
He can now eat and speak normally, his appearance has been vastly improved and a final operation will improve appearance and function further .

The hole caused by removal of a cancerous growth has since been repaired using skin and tissue from this man's forehead.
