Ghana has a very high burn accident rate. Burns can result in death, amputation, disfigurement, contraction, deformity and loss of function and quality of life.
Plastic surgeons can prevent and correct deformity and graft new skin onto the affected areas. Large numbers of burn victims are successfully treated in the Ghana with this young man below right giving his approval for the care and attention he received in the RPSB Accra Unit.

Burns in the upper body in the vicinity of the head and neck can produce major contractures and deformities in the head and neck. Contractures can be released by surgery using skin grafts to help restore functions.

Acid burns from attacks on women are common frequently requiring the reconstruction of eyelids.

These two boys, Collins Amu, aged 9 below left, and Kofi Antwe, aged 2, below right were injured in their homes where the bulk of burn accidents in Ghana occur.

Both recovered fully from their reconstructive surgical treatment in the RSPB unit in Korle-Bu Hospital, Accra.
